{"id":103232,"date":"2026-04-21T13:38:21","date_gmt":"2026-04-21T11:38:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.geographie.nat.fau.de\/?p=103232"},"modified":"2026-05-08T15:45:05","modified_gmt":"2026-05-08T13:45:05","slug":"interactive-cross-border-atlas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.geographie.nat.fau.de\/en\/interactive-cross-border-atlas\/","title":{"rendered":"Interactive cross-border Atlas"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The recently published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espon.eu\/projects\/crossgov-governance-mechanisms-cross-border-functional-areas\">ESPON CROSSGOV<\/a> project, led by Prof. Tobias Chilla\u2019s working group, has developed a new interactive web tool that highlights the diverse structures and dynamics of European border regions. At the heart of the <a href=\"https:\/\/gis-portal.espon.eu\/arcgis\/apps\/experiencebuilder\/experience\/?id=27e3b86ef44441b08793a2239c370607\">CROSSGOV Hub<\/a> is the <a href=\"https:\/\/gis-portal.espon.eu\/arcgis\/apps\/storymaps\/collections\/345c978adf784adfac30c16b90219d35?item=8\">CROSSGOV Atlas<\/a> which allows users to explore 21 territorial indicators along thematic pan-European analyses via the <a href=\"https:\/\/gis-portal.espon.eu\/arcgis\/apps\/storymaps\/collections\/adefd695bfca443693f91b904ba83b89?item=4\">Thematic Fiches<\/a>. In addition, the project proposes a methodological framework to identify cross-border functional areas (CBFA) across Europe. The resulting 85 CBFAs can be explored via the <a href=\"https:\/\/gis-portal.espon.eu\/arcgis\/apps\/storymaps\/stories\/43a7ae2e7f2544c08bfabbbbafc0059e\">Regional Focus<\/a>. The project (2024\u20132026) presents an important step towards fine-scale data availability for border regions, in particular at the pan-European level.
