Applied Geocomputation in GIScience, ecology, qualitative GIS and geomarketing

Everybody dealing with geographic data is in need of a tool that is able to modify, analyze and visualize this data. This already implies that the under-lying methods can be used across disciplines. For instance, predictive modeling of species distribution, natural hazard susceptibility or suitable business locations make all use of statistical learning techniques. In this presentation we will have a look at a few selected examples that demon-strate how geocomputation can help to solve problems in the natural sci-ences and the humanities including case studies from ecology, the busi-ness world and qualitative GIS. If time allows, we will further have a short glance at how the presented examples try to comply with the principles of reproducible research and literate programming (github, docker, open-source software, open data).
