In terms of transport, land use and housing – the interdependencies in the Salzburg – Berchtesgadener Land – Traunstein border region are close. This is why coordinated strategies are needed for successful spatial and settlement development. The RABE project is now creating the data basis for this.

Sustainable spatial development requires a good data basis. However, this is often lacking, especially when it comes to cross-border development. The RABE project now aims to compile and harmonize this data for the border region of Salzburg – Berchtesgadener Land – Traunstein.

This is because the interdependencies in the border region are close, especially in the areas of mobility, housing, land consumption and landscape change. This is why coordinated cross-border strategies for sustainable spatial and settlement development are needed.

Basis for cross-border spatial monitoring

The overall objective of RABE is to remove barriers to sustainable spatial development by developing cross-border spatial planning and statistical data at the level of municipalities, districts and regions and promoting cross-border data exchange. This will create a basis for cross-border spatial observation.

RABE addresses in particular the topics of demography, labor market and economy, spatial structure, settlement and open space development, housing, mobility and education. The aim is to make the results available to authorities and the general public via an online platform in the long term. In addition, a largely automatic updating of cross-border regional statistics and planning data is planned.

The project is being carried out by the lead partner Studio iSPACE together with the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg with the support of the EuRegio Salzburg – Berchtesgadener Land – Traunstein. Project partners with an advisory function are the state and city of Salzburg, the Salzburg Chamber of Labor, the districts of Traunstein and Berchtesgadener Land and the government of Upper Bavaria.
