The Institute of Geography warmly welcomes all new students for the 2025/26 winter semester! An exciting new chapter in your life is about to begin. Starting ‘student life’ in a new place, or even a new country, can be challenging. You don’t know anyone yet, you don’t know where to find information and you’re not sure how studying works. To help you get started with your geography studies, here are some useful tips:

  • Freshers’ Days organised by the Geography Student Representatives, 9 and 10 October 2025: Geography Student Representatives will give you a tour of the institute, help you draw up your timetable and provide advice and assistance with any questions you may have. But there will also be plenty of fun to be had with a variety of activities!
    • 9 October 2025, 10:00 a.m.: Information day at the Institute of Geography, Wetterkreuz 15, in Tennenlohe (meeting point: courtyard)
    • 10 October 2025, 4:00 p.m.: City rally followed by a pub evening (meeting point: Lecture Hall C, Kochstr. 4, Erlangen)
  • Welcome and introductory event for all new students: An official welcome and introductory event for all new students of geography programmes (Bachelor’s, Master’s and teaching) will take place on Monday, 13 October 2025 at 10:15 am in Lecture Hall C (Kochstr. 4, Erlangen). Attendance is strongly recommended.
  • Welcome and introductory event for Master’s students: A welcome and introductory event for new master’s students will take place on Monday, 13 October 2025 at 12:00 pm in room 00.15 PSG (Philosophisches Seminargebäude PSG III, Kochstr. 6a, Erlangen). Places for the courses in the first semester will also be allocated during this event.
  • The Central Office for International Affairs offers welcome weeks for international students at the beginning of each semester to help you with legal formalities as well as the general onboarding at FAU. The programme is open to all international students.
  • On the StudOn learning and examination platform, you will find information and tips on starting and organising your studies in the course ‘2025_ Informationen zum Semesterstart’. You will also find separate information on the MSc Physical Geography: Climate & Environmental Sciences there: https://www.studon.fau.de/crs4328647_join.html
