Aus dem Ausland (Incoming Students)

Welcome to the Institute of Geography at FAU. We are pleased to welcome students who come to FAU through ERASMUS+, FAUexchange, or other exchange programs.

Most formal and administrative steps for incoming exchange students are handled centrally by FAU International Affairs / Service International. Our institute supports incoming students mainly with academic and subject-specific questions, such as course selection, Learning Agreements, course content, and contact with lecturers or supervisors. For the aforementioned information, students can contact our institutional ERASMUS coordinator, Dr. Sugam Aryal.

Before contacting the institute, please first follow the official FAU application and admission procedure for exchange students. Incoming students usually apply through their home university and are nominated to FAU before completing the FAU exchange application.

1. Apply through your home university

Your exchange stay normally starts with an application at your home university. After successful selection, your home university nominates you to FAU.

2. Complete the FAU central application

After nomination, please follow the instructions sent by FAU International Affairs / Service International. The institute cannot process the official FAU exchange application directly.

3. Check suitable courses at the Institute of Geography

Before preparing your Learning Agreement, please check whether courses offered by the Institute of Geography fit your study program and can be recognized by your home university. Please contact the institute’s ERASMUS coordinator for details on courses. Please consider language, timing, ECTS credits, exam format, and recognition rules at the home university when selecting the courses.

4. Prepare your provisional Learning Agreement

Your Learning Agreement should include the courses you plan to take at FAU and the courses or credits that should be recognized at your home university. Each exchange student must take 25 ECTS at FAU. In some cases, the exchange students can also take language courses or courses from other faculties. However, enrollment depends on the prerequisite criteria and available places. Please note that course changes after arrival may be necessary if courses are canceled, are full, overlap, or are not suitable for your study level.

Information on courses offered at the Institute of Geography can be found in the course catalogs.

5. Wait for official admission and arrival information

Please wait for official information from FAU’s central offices regarding admission, enrolment, arrival, and other formal steps.

6. Register for courses after arrival

After you are officially enrolled at the university, you will receive a student ID and your IDM credentials. An IDM credential is essential because you can only enroll in courses with it. You can use an IDM credential to log in to the FAU systems, such as Campo and/or StudOn. As soon as you receive IDM, you can get enrolled in courses with the help of the Institutional ERASMUS coordinator.

7. Update your Learning Agreement if needed

If your course selection changes after arrival, please update the “During the Mobility” section of your Learning Agreement and obtain the required approvals from your home university and FAU.

8. Before leaving FAU

Before the end of your stay, please complete all course requirements, exams, and any necessary documents. For central certificates and transcripts, please follow the instructions from FAU’s central offices.
