Computerlinguistik (B.A.)

Beim Studiengang Computerlinguistik können Sie zwei für die moderne Welt essentielle Interessensgebiete miteinander verknüpfen: Sprache bzw. die Sprachwissenschaft sowie die Informatik. An der FAU konzentrieren sich die Studierenden dabei vor allem auf die technischen und praktischen Aspekte der maschinellen Sprachverarbeitung.

Worum geht es im Studiengang?

Are you interested in how search engines find the relevant websites for your query and make suggestions for corrections or additions? How voice control works on modern smartphones? How computers can automatically pull facts and opinions from digital texts (such as Wikipedia, online news feeds and social media)? And are you also curious about what the term “digital humanities” actually means? Then studying computer linguistics may be just the thing for you.

Computer linguistics researches the processing of human language and develops computer models for understanding, producing and learning language. The program covers theories and methods from computer science, linguistics and cognition science and applies fundamentals from mathematics such as formal logic or statistics. Computer linguistics at FAU focuses on the technical and practical aspects of machine language processing. In addition, students select a linguistics subject to acquire the necessary basic knowledge of theoretical and empirical linguistics.

Studying computer linguistics qualifies you to become involved in developing new products. As computer-aided information retrieval will continue to be significant in future and processing language data will continue to play a key role, you can be sure that computer linguistics graduates will be much sought after, both now and in the future.
