First Research Retreat of the Society-Environment Research Group

Amid former military grounds, burnt forest and nature conservation sites, our team came together for the first time to get to know each other, explore shared research interests, plan upcoming projects, and define the common themes of our research group. Among other things, we talked about different juxtapositions of nature-society relations, the range and scale of the environmental polycrisis—from the microbial to the planetary—, cultures and politics of knowledge and expertise, and a shared curiosity for alternate methods of study and representation of more-than-human worlds. Thanks to our geographical spirit (and blow dryers), we were also able to brave the rain and explore our very physical environment around the historic Paulinenhof—and got rewarded with spectacular evening light.

We are currently working on consolidating our results into a research agenda, so stay tuned for updates of our research profile!
